Public / Conventional Housing Program
The HASLO Conventional
Housing Program consists of apartment complexes within the city of San
Luis Obispo that the Housing Authority owns and operates. Qualified families
and individuals rent these apartments, with the renter's rent based on
their income. In order to qualify for the program, families or individuals
must have a total family income of seventy percent or less of the counties
median income for their family size.
All
of the apartment complexes owned by HASLO are small family oriented complexes
with the sizes ranging from three apartments to 20 apartments. The complexes,
designed to reflect the southwestern architectural style of the local
neighborhoods and the city as a whole, are scattered throughout the city
of San Luis Obispo.
There are a few complexes included within the Conventional Housing Program
designed for elderly and disabled clients. These complexes are usually
studio or one-bedroom apartment complexes, while most of the family complexes
range from one bedroom up to four bedroom apartments suitable for larger
families.
Since
the Housing Authority is the "landlord" for the Conventional
Housing Program apartment complexes, there is a screening process that
all applicants go through. The screening process insures that all of the
HASLO complexes are drug and violence free, allowing for a safe environment
for all residents.
There are a number
of auxiliary programs associated with the Conventional Housing Program,
these programs include, but are not limited to, the Children's Work Incentive
Program, the Learning Center and Tutoring programs, as well as the Family
Self Sufficiency program. For more information about these programs, proceed
to their individual pages within this website.
