The Housing Authority of the City of San Luis Obispo (HASLO) has a mission to assist the counties lower income citizens secure and maintain long-term housing. It is a mission the Housing Authority takes very seriously and executes  creatively and diligently.

Interest List for the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8)

An interest list for the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program will be developed from names submitted online from:

 

Opening Date:           Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.  through

Closing Date:             Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

 

After the interest list closes, HASLO will conduct a random lottery to select 250 names for the waiting list.  Those selected will be added to the waiting list.

If you are unable to apply at this time or you are not selected in the lottery, we anticipate opening the interest list again in six to nine months (subject to funding).

Applicants must qualify as a family, an elderly person (62 years of age or older), or a person(s) with disabilities with annual household incomes that fall at or below the published income limits:

the section 8 (Housing choice voucher) is closed until november 1, 2017.

The Anderson Hotel Apartments waiting list will close effective November 1, 2017. 

All other waiting lists for rental assistance, except as noted below,  are closed.


The 4-bedroom waiting lists for Public Housing & Madonna Road Apartments will remain open.

860 on the Wye Grand Opening

The Grand Opening of 860 on the Wye on Tuesday, June 27 was a huge success with local representatives and the community coming out to show their support to the veterans who now have a permanent home in San Luis Obispo.  

South hills crossing grand opening was celebrated on Thursday, September 8, 2016  

“South Hills Crossing represents the coming together of the private sector, HASLO, the City and financial markets to really address one of our community’s top challenges – lack of affordable rental housing. I am excited to see this project come to fruition,” said Mayor Jan Howell Marx, City of San Luis Obispo.

860 on the Wye Highlighted in "Affordable Housing News"

The Summer 2016 edition of "Affordable Housing News" highlights HASLO's new development, 860 on the Wye, in which half of the 20 apartments are reserved for veterans that have been homeless.  Read the article on page 72 of the publication by clicking here.

860 on the Wye Wall-Raising

Local, state, and federal dignitaries joined HASLO on May 31st for a Wall-Raising celebration for 860 on the Wye, HASLO's new permanent housing for veterans.  One half of the apartments will be reserved for veterans that have been homeless.  Read more.

MIXED INCOME WORKFORCE HOUSING AND COMMERCIAL SPACE WILL BE DEVELOPED ON RECENTLY PURCHASED SITE  

HASLO just purchased property at 3680 Broad Street in San Luis Obispo for a mixed-use development that will consist of 46 apartments and commercial space.  The residential complex will target local workforce households with incomes ranging from $18,000 to $50,000.  Read more.

Groundbreaking for 43 new affordable apartments in slo

On March 19, 2015, a Groundbreaking Ceremony was held for the South Street Family Apartments in San Luis Obispo, 43 new affordable apartments for families with annual incomes at or below 60 percent of the county's median income.   Read more.

HASLO Receives NAHRO's 2014 Agency Award of Excellence

The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) presented HASLO Executive Director Scott Smith with the "2014 Agency Award of Excellence in Program Innovation - Affordable Housing" during NAHRO's National Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 17th.  Read more.

On September 25, HASLO received a donation from Pacific Western Bank in the amount of $14,750.  Read more.

HASLO Receives National Award for Homeownership

HASLO received a national Award of Merit, and is also one of few nominated for NAHRO's Award of Excellence.  Read more.

ACH Payment Available

If you are tired of writing a check or having to secure a Money Order every month to pay your rent, sign up for “ACH” Direct Pay. The rent will be taken out of your checking account automatically on the 4th of every month.  Read more.

No Smoking Policy

The Housing Authority of San Luis Obispo (HASLO) implemented a smoke-free policy on January 1, 2013, that prohibits residents from smoking in all of our public housing units and some of our San Luis Obispo Non-Profit complexes. The ban on smoking will eventually reach all of our housing units.  Read more.
