HASLO Programs
Section 8
The Housing Choice Voucher program, commonly referred to as Section 8, is a program that provides rental assistance to families and individuals who find themselves at or below fifty percent of the county median income for their family size. Designed to provide long-term rental assistance, the program helps people rent from property owners on the private market. The program serves families with children, elderly and disabled individuals, as well as families with members who are disabled.
Family Self-Sufficiency
The mission of the Family Self-Sufficiency Program is to assist motivated individuals and families to become economically independent and self-sufficient by working together to overcome barriers, build self-esteem, and establish and attain goals.
Public Housing
The HASLO Conventional Housing Program consists of apartment complexes within the city of San Luis Obispo that the Housing Authority owns and operates. Qualified families and individuals rent these apartments, with the renter's rent based on their income. In order to qualify for the program, families or individuals must have a total family income of seventy percent or less of the counties median income for their family size.
Tenant Based Rental Assistance
The Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program (TBRA) is an emergency, short-term, rental assistance program originally developed by the San Luis Obispo Supportive Housing Consortium. The Housing Authority of the City of San Luis Obispo (HASLO) administers the program for the Consortium.
Learning Center
The Housing Authority's Learning Center is an educational facility that encompasses three programs that are devoted to meet the needs of Housing Authority residents—The Learning Center's Computer Lab, Tutoring Program and The Children's/Teen's After-School Program.
Program Integrity
The Housing Authority of the City of San Luis Obispo ("HASLO") is committed to program integrity. In 1981, the position of Program Integrity Specialist was created to support this mission. HASLO was one of the first in the country to take a proactive step in setting up a Program Integrity unit.
